Guru Releases Statement on Heart Attack

Acclaimed lyricist Guru of the hip-hop group Gang Starr released a statement on March 3rd as he recovers from surgery after suffering a heart attack end of February.

Guru, née Keith Elam, briefly slipped into a coma due to the heart attack. However, doctors performed a successful surgery on the rapper, 43, Tuesday March 2nd.

“I am doing fine and I am recovering! I’m weak though,” Guru told AllHipHop via statement today. “[Producer for Guru] Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false! I appreciate your well wishes and all the love!”

Guru and his family have asked for privacy as he recovers, yet wants his fans to continue sending prayers, thoughts and love.

Echoing Guru’s sentiments, Solar stressed the need for privacy, but told fans that the rapper’s outlook is positive.

“Guru is resting and doing well after his surgery,” Solar told AllHipHop. “The doctors say that he will fully recover from his illness. We thank everyone who send prayers our way and we appreciate the outpouring of love from around the world!”

A member of the duo Gang Starr alongside acclaimed producer DJ Premier, they released seven albums over a 14-year span. Guru has also released seven solo albums.
