Lil Wayne & Eminem To Film "Drop The World" Video During Grammy Weekend

Before Lil Wayne heads into the big house later next month, he’s squeezing out one more visual collaboration his fans have been waiting for: “Drop The World” featuring Eminem.

The two Grammy Award recipients will shoot a video for the single to be featured on Weezy’s rock-inspired project, "Rebirth," this weekend in Los Angeles. In-demand video director, Chris Robinson will take on directing duties.

Both Em and Wayne will be in town for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards which are set to take place on Sunday, January 31st. In addition to linking up for the filming of “Drop The World,” the pair will also be hitting music’s biggest stage with Drake and Travis Barker for a “Forever” Remix performance.

Nelly Plans Male Version of "The View"

Nelly is teaming up with Jermaine Dupri and Trey Songz to reportedly work on a new television project that he has described as the male version of the popular daytime talk show, "The View."

Speaking to BV Buzz, Nelly says that project is currently under development.

“Not sure if you're familiar with the Ocean's 7 Crew,” Nelly said. “It’s me, Jermaine Dupri, Trey Songz, Johnta Austin, Brian Michael Cox and Tyrone “International” Davis. We're working on kind of like the male version of The View. We’re working on that.

“I'm starting to do more now, but I wanted to do stuff that made sense to me,” he continued. “I had a lot of offers and a lot of things that probably could’ve been cool, but I turned it down because I felt I wasn't ready yet. I never want to disrespect the culture and the thing that is acting, thinking just because I'm Nelly I'm going to transition and be good at it.”

This isn’t the first time Nelly has been working on a television series. Entertainment Weekly reported that the rapper was developing a variety series set in Las Vegas. He has not forgotten his music roots, however, as he is working with producer Jim Jonsin, Rico Love and Kelly Rowland on his next, as-yet-untitled album.

Michael Jacskon's Doctor to Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter

Earlier this month authorities concluded the investigation to Michael Jacskon’s death, citing Dr. Conrad Murray as the main cause for his fatality. Now, sources closes to the case are confirming Murray will be charged with involuntary manslaughter for his involvement.

According to TMZ, sources involved with case have already met and discussed the details to filing a criminal case against Dr. Murray. David Walgren, the deputy D.A. assigned to the case, is extremely familiar with the particulars surrounding the investigation and has already briefed Los Angeles Country District Attorney, Steve Cooley.

Though Murray has yet to comment on the future charges, it’s being said that the L.A. physician could be charged with involuntary manslaughter as early as next week. Members from Jackson’s family have yet to release a statement regarding the matter.

New Unauthorized Tupac Biography Hits Stores

A new, unauthorized biography on the life and times of Tupac Shakur hit stores on January 26.

Tayannah Lee McQuillar – author of "When Rap Music Had a Conscience" – and Prof. Fred L. Johnson III write "Tupac Shakur: The Life and Times of an American Icon." According to a press release, the book is “a passionate, critically incisive biography of one of the most influential rappers of all time, and how he came to dominate hip-hop in the 1990s.

“Shakur was a hero to the poor, the imprisoned, the hopeless, and the voiceless,” the press release continued. “But there was another side to him, revealed as his life spun out of control, as the whispered warnings from friends went unheeded and the denunciations of critics grew louder.”

While the biography details Pac’s early beginnings, subsequent rise to fame and fateful death, it also documents his short-lived marriage to Keisha Morris, relationship with his sister Sekyiwa and the negative effects of his T.H.U.G.L.I.F.E movement.

"Tupac Shakur: The Life of an American Icon" is on sale now via De Capo Press for $15.95.

T.I. Hit With Copy Infringement Lawsuit For "What You Know"

Los Angeles-based producer/rapper Motoe Blizzid is claiming that T.I. snatched “substantial portions” of a track titled “Reverence” without permission and reused it for “What You Know,” the Grammy Award-winning song from Tip’s fourth solo LP, “King.”

Blizzid (born Nathan Filby) filed the suit in Los Angeles Federal Court. “In recent years, the recording industry has taken a particularly strong stance against copyright infringement, filing countless multi-million dollar suits against individuals for online file sharing," Filby’s attorney, John Tehranian explained to X17online. "We are hopeful that T.I., Atlantic Records and Warner Brothers will demonstrate the same respect for copyright in responding to this suit."

The lawsuit, which has yet to be addressed by T.I., names Grand Hustle Records, Atlantic Records and Warner Bros. Entertainment as defendants.

Michael Jackson's Estate Hit With Two Lawsuits

Problems for Michael Jackson’s estate continue to pour in. Earlier today, Jackson’s estate first saw a claim for more than $100,000 due to unfulfilled obligations. The Machine Management is suing Jackson’s estate for a whopping $285,000, TMZ has learned.

The company is claiming MJ employed their establishment to develop a series of small companies which would assist Jackson in several new endeavors the singer was embarking on. Machine Management claims Jackson asked for assistance in developing a Michael Jackson film label that would put together original film content.

In addition, the company also claims Jackson asked for help in developing a “Michael Jackson Global Warming Awareness Initiative” as well as creating a film festival in Sultanate of Oman. The estate’s legal rep, Howard Weitzman is aware of the claim and currently pondering on how to handle the issue.

Now, Craig A. Johnson is asking for money due to an unpaid invoice. According to TMZ.com, last Friday Jackson’s estate was sued by Johnson for $375,403.24.

Johnson claims the estate failed to pay him for prior engineering and research work he conducted. It’s still unclear on whether or not the work was done while Jackson was alive.

According to court documents, Johnson issued 345 separate charges for the suit and gives no specific reasons for the individual charges. The prices for each of the charts range from $865 to $1,950.

Artists Have Hope For Haiti

The audacity of hope! Celebrities came together on Friday, Jan. 22 to help raise money to benefit Haiti in the wake of a devastating earthquake that has claimed thousands of lives. Jay-Z, Rihanna, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson and others performed live from London, New York and Los Angeles as part of Hope For Haiti Now's telethon.

Organized by George Clooney and Wyclef Jean, Hopeforhaitinow.org brought together a diverse blend of artists, actors, and musicians who performed or answered phone lines.

Jennifer Hudson performed a powerful rendition of Paul McCartney's "Let It Be," while another songstress, Beyonce, stuck to her own music, singing "Halo."

Rihannna performed alongside Jay-Z and Bono. The trio collaborated on an original song, entitled "Stranded."

Wyclef Jean, who is a Haitian American, talked about being in Haiti last week and pulling bodies out of the rubble.

All songs from the concert will be available on itunes.com.

Michael Jackson Estate Denies Joe Jackson Allowance

The turmoil around Michael Jackson’s estate continues, as it does not want to pay his father Joe an allowance.

According to legal documents filed by the estate’s lawyers, the late King of Pop did not want his father to be a beneficiary under his will, and Joe was never legally dependent on Michael Jackson during his life.

Lawyers claim that Joe wants to use the money for “lavish expenses” and not maintenance as Joe has stated, which include vacations, air travel, hotels, assistants and legal fees. Joe also says that the allowance will include monies that will allow him to “support his children or grandchildren.”

This is another in a long list of issues in regards to Michael Jackson’s estate. Earlier this month, it was reported that a small investment banking firm in Baltimore, MD, filed a claim in the Los Angeles Superior court for “financial services related to music publishing assets.” They claim that the late King of Pop’s estate owes $328,299.03 in unpaid fees. To date, the growing list of creditors’ claims against Jackson’s estate is expected to exceed $20 million.

Rick Ross Sheds Light On Floyd Mayweather Vegas Confrontation

After reports surfaced of a brief encounter with Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, Rick Ross offered some details on the said confrontation during an interview with DJ Envy on Power 105 earlier this month.

The two egos collided during red carpet festivities at the opening of Vanity Nightclub in Las Vegas several weekends ago. Sources at the party confirmed that Diddy played peacemaker and separated the two bosses and their teams before things escalated.

“It's safe to say somebody most definitely owes Diddy a dinner date,” Ross explained to DJ Envy. “Most definitely the bosses bumped heads out there, it wasn't pretty but we kept it gangsta on my side. I'ma leave that on the gangsta side, shout-out out to Diddy.”

The tension between Ross and Mayweather stems from bad blood involving 50 Cent, a close friend of the boxer. Things took an ugly turn when the mother to Ross’ youngest son took a trip out to Las Vegas with 50 to visit Mayweather’s home.

In other Rick Ross news, Def Jam’s biggest boss just released the first offering to his new album, Teflon Don. “Mafia Music 2” which features label mate Chrisette Michelle. A release date for the LP has yet to be confirmed.

Quincy Jones & Lionel Richie Prep 'We Are the World' Sequel

As in 1985, the effort will be turned into a video and a single will be released in which all the proceeds will be given to relief efforts for Haiti. Grammy producer, Ken Ehrlich will be producing the event which is set to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Kanye West Banned from Hope for Haiti Telethon

With everybody from Jay-Z to U2 slated to perform at the George Clooney-helmed “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief,” there are rumors that one high-profile artist will not be allowed to participate: Kanye West.

Reports are saying that George Clooney himself would not allow West to partake in the fundraiser, that was broadcast on MTV January, 22. Gawker has also reported that some are going out of their way to make sure that West doesn’t make an unwanted appearance.

“After what he said on the [Hurricane] Katrina telethon and the way he behaved at the MTV Video Music Awards, everyone agrees it's just best that he does not participate,” said a producer. “Kanye has to make everything about himself. He will do anything to steal the spotlight, and, well, this night it's just not about him.”

Artists scheduled to perform during “Hope for Haiti Now” include Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, Sting and Wyclef in New York, with Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift will be in Los Angeles, and Beyoncé and Coldplay will take the stage in London, in addition to Jay-Z, Rihanna and U2. George Clooney, who helped organize the event with MTV Networks, will host the benefit show in Los Angeles, with Wyclef Jean and CNN's Anderson Cooper joining in from New York and Haiti, respectively. All donations will benefit Oxfam America, Partners in Health, Red Cross, UNICEF and Wyclef's Yélé Haiti foundation. The Clinton Bush Haiti Fund and United Nations World Food Programme will also benefit from the telethon's efforts, as aid will be split evenly among each organization's relief programs for the ravaged island.

Ja Rule (born Jeffrey Atkins) was pulled over after a concert performance in NYC and authorities searched his Maybach and found an unregistered .40 caliber pistol and a small amount of marijuana.

Though the judge agreed to a dismissal for the marijuana because of Ja’s admission to owning the substance, Atkins is still due back in court to face the gun possession charge. If found guilty, he'll serve a minimum 3 and ½-year prison term.

Mystikal Released From Prison

New Orleans-based rapper Mystikal was released from prison earlier this month (Jan. 14), according to various sources. Back in January of 2004, Mystikal was sentenced to six years after he plead guilty to sexual battery.

The rapper, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, was accused of forcing his hair stylist to perform sexual acts on him while his two bodyguards (Leland "Pokie" Ellis and Vercy "V" Carter) filmed it. Mystikal believed that the hair stylist had stole $80,000 in checks from him. The video tape of the incident was later found, forcing Mystikal to confess to the crime.

Mystikal gained popularity back in the late 90's as an artist signed to Master P's successful No Limit Records. In 2000, he released the hit single "Shake It Fast," produced by the Neptunes.

Mystikal phoned into New Orleans' radio station Q93 for an interview. "It was tough. I took it in stride," he said of his situation. "I'm back. It almost feels like a dream. For a while, it felt like, I was gone so long," he said.

Mystikal also let listeners know that he'd been writing in jail. He spoke directly to his fans, "I'm back and I love y'all and I missed y'all, and I want to send out appreciation for all the fans."

When asked whether he'd be doing any mentoring or giving back to the community, Mystikal affirmed his reform. "I'm going to be doing a lot of positive things."

DJ AM Estate Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Representatives from DJ AM’s estate have come to an agreement with several companies, according to TMZ.com. The lawsuit that was filed stems from the highly-publicized plane crash that involved DJ AM just several months before his death.

DJ AM (born Adam Goldstein) was involved in a devastating plane crash back in September of 2008 along with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker. AM’s estate is asserting the pain caused from the crash ignited Goldstein to relapse on an assortment of narcotics that ultimately caused his death in August of 2009.

Sources close to the case revealed that the all parties agreed to the settlement. The amount, however, remains confidential. Defendants within the settlement include Clay Lacy Aviation, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Learjet.

R&B Singer Pendergrass Dead In Pa. At 59

R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass, who was one of the most electric and successful figures in music until a car crash 28 years ago left him in a wheelchair, has died of colon cancer. He was 59.

Pendergrass died Wednesday January 13, in suburban Philadelphia, where he had been hospitalized for months.

The singer's son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery."

Before the crash, Pendergrass established a new era of R&B with an explosive, raw voice that symbolized masculinity, passion and the joys and sorrow of romance in songs such as "Close the Door," ''It Don't Hurt Now," ''Love T.K.O." and other hits that have since become classics.

He was an international superstar and sex symbol. His career was at its apex — and still climbing.

Friend and longtime collaborator Kenny Gamble, of the renowned production duo Gamble & Huff, teamed with Pendergrass on his biggest hits and recalled how the singer was even working on a movie.

"He had about 10 platinum albums in a row, so he was a very, very successful recording artist and as a performing artist," Gamble said Thursday. "He had a tremendous career ahead of him, and the accident sort of got in the way of many of those plans."

Pendergrass, who was born in Philadelphia in 1950, suffered a spinal cord injury in a 1982 car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down — still able to sing but without his signature power. The image of the strong, virile lover was replaced with one that drew sympathy.

But instead of becoming bitter or depressed, Pendergrass created a new identity — that as a role model, Gamble said.

"He never showed me that he was angry at all about his accident," Gamble said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "In fact, he was very courageous."

Pendergrass left a remarkable imprint on the music world as he ushered in a new era in R&B with his fiery, sensual and forceful brand of soul and his ladies' man image, burnished by his strikingly handsome looks.

Gamble said Pendergrass was one of a kind as an artist and boasted a powerful voice and "a great magnetism."

"He was a great baritone singer, and he had a real smooth sound, but he had a real rough sound, too, when he wanted to exert power in his voice," Gamble said.

But it wasn't Pendergrass' voice that got him his break in the music business — it was his drum playing abilities. He met Harold Melvin, who was looking for replacement members for his group, the Blue Notes, and signed on to be the drummer. Later, he became the lead singer of the group, which became known as Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes.

The band started working with Gamble and Leon Huff and had signature hits in the early 1970s with "Wake Up Everybody" and "If You Don't Know Me by Now."

But Pendergrass had creative differences with Melvin and soon left for a solo career, according to his Web site. It was then he would become a sex symbol for the R&B genre, working women into a frenzy with hits such as "Only You" and concerts dedicated for ladies only.

"The females," Gamble said, "loved Teddy Pendergrass. The females were very attracted to him and his music."

Unlike the songs of many of today's male R&B crooners, Pendergrass' music bordered on eroticism without explicit lyrics or coarse language — just through the raw emotion in his voice. "Turn Off the Lights" was a tune that perhaps best represented the many moods of Pendergrass — tender and coaxing yet strong as the song reaches its climax.

Fans were devastated when, at age 31, Pendergrass was critically injured after his Rolls-Royce hit a tree. He spent six months in a hospital and returned to recording the next year with the album "Love Language."

He continued to sing and recorded several albums, receiving Grammy nominations; perhaps his best-known hit after his crash was the inspirational song "Life is a Song Worth Singing."

"To all his fans who loved his music, thank you," his son said. "He will live on through his music."

It was 19 years before Pendergrass resumed performing at his own concerts. He made his return on Memorial Day weekend in 2001, with two sold-out shows in Atlantic City, N.J.

Gamble noted Pendergrass' charitable work for people with spinal cord injuries, his performances despite pain and his focus on the positive in the face of great challenges.

"He used to say something in his act in the wheelchair, 'Don't let the wheelchair fool you,' because he still proclaimed he was a lover," Gamble said.

But his career was never the same. Gamble said it was difficult for Pendergrass to project vocally like he once did: "The breathing aspect of it, he wasn't really able to deal with it."

And while he had albums, he was no longer seen as the sex symbol but more of a sympathetic, tragic figure, even though he still had a strong following among his core female fans.

After the accident, he dedicated much of his life to helping others with spinal cord injuries and founded the Teddy Pendergrass Alliance to do just that. Gamble said he wanted to help others.

"In his quiet moments, he probably did a lot of reflection. But I never saw him pity himself. He stayed busy," Gamble said. "(But) I feel that he's in a better place now. ... He doesn't have to go through that pain or whatever he was going through anymore."

Bassist Who Toured With Lauryn Hill Fatally Shot

Authorities in California are looking for suspects in the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man who played bass and toured the world with singer Lauryn Hill.

The California Highway Patrol says Dewey Tucker was found dead in his vehicle January 12, having been shot on his way to band practice in Oakland.

Investigators have made no arrests, and say it appears Tucker was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. They say he had no criminal history.

Tucker's parents say their son was engaged and was an outgoing young man who lived to play music.

Tucker performed with Hill over the past couple of years and played with Oakland hip-hop group the Coup. He was also a member of the Greater St. Paul Baptist Church band in Oakland.

Michael Jackson Memorial Nominated for Image Award

A variety show in its definition is one in which participants deliver monologues; skits and comedy sketches are featured; and musical performances are anticipated by awaiting audiences. So what could the NAACP be thinking with their latest headlining move?

The NAACP's national president, Ben Jealous, has allowed the organization to nominate Michael Jackson's televised memorial for an Image Award, as a variety show, according to HelloBeautiful.com.

The former head of the Beverly Hills NAACP branch, Billie J. Green, wasn't all that happy about the nomination. He wrote a letter addressed to Jealous and NAACP putting them both on blast for allowing such an event to be marginalized.

"Even though entertainers did perform, it was still a memorial service/funeral to honor this young man,” Green wrote. "The NAACP's Image Awards were created to honor people who portrayed positive images of African-Americans in the entertainment industry. This show has always been a legitimate awards presentation. Unfortunately, this recent nomination of Michael Jackson's memorial service/funeral has resulted in the ridicule of the Image Awards as a legitimate awards show. This nomination is an embarrassment to the past and present members of the NAACP and the African-American community as a whole. As someone who has worked closely with the NAACP to create jobs and positive images in the entertainment industry, I am truly ashamed of this recent nomination."

Hundreds Feared Dead in Haiti Earthquake

Major buildings including offices, hotels and shops collapsed when a massive earthquake hit Haiti's capital, burying hundreds, possibly thousands of people beneath rubble, an aid worker with a US charity said.

"The whole city is in darkness, you have thousands of people sitting in the streets, with nowhere to go," Rachmani Domersant, an operations manager with Food for the Poor, told Reuters from Port-au-Prince.

"I've seen seven to eight buildings, from office buildings to hotels and shopping stores, collapsed ... I think hundreds of casualties would be a serious understatement," he added.

Haiti's ambassador to the US says the earthquake has caused a "catastrophe of major proportions" and there are reports of mass panic, with screaming people rushing into the streets as buildings collapsed, throwing a pall of dust over the city.

This morning a local doctor told AFP that he feared the death toll would be significant.

"When we get an idea of the toll it will be measured in the hundreds," the doctor said.

DFAT is working to find out of any Australians have been caught up in the quake.

The epicentre of the quake was located inland, just 16 kilometres from the capital, and was a shallow 10km deep, intensifying its impact, and significant casualties are expected.

Reuters reporter Joseph Guyler Delva says he saw dozens of people apparently dead or injured lying under rubble, which blocked roads.

"Everything started shaking, people were screaming, houses started collapsing... it's total chaos," he said

The national director of World Vision in Haiti, Frank Williams, is just outside Port-Au-Prince.

"People are screaming all around and walls from buildings and private residences have fallen into the streets, so that has pretty much blocked off most of the traffic," he said.

"We have some aftershocks that we've experienced... people are wailing... [are] very frightened. Most of the people are out on the streets."

The earthquake hit at 4.53pm (local time) in an extremely populated area. A US Geological Survey official told CNN that significant casualties were expected.

Haiti's ambassador to the US Raymond Alcide Joseph told CNN he was heartbroken as he had just spoken by telephone with a senior presidential aide who described scenes of chaos and devastation.

"He had to stop his car just about half an hour ago, and take to the streets, start walking, but he said houses were crumbling on the right side of the street and the left side of the street," Mr Joseph said.

"He does not know whether he would reach his home, not knowing what he would find, because he had a bridge to cross to get there."

Palace collapses, UN building destroyed

The presidential palace in Port-Au-Prince collapsed and many other public buildings across the capital were destroyed, Haitian television streaming online reported Tuesday.

"The presidential palace, the finance ministry, the ministry of public works, the ministry of communication and culture," were all affected by the quake, a Haitian reporter said, adding that the parliament building and a cathedral in the capital were also crumbling.

A Miami Herald journalist says President Rene Preval has escaped.

The earthquake also destroyed the headquarters of the United Nations peacekeeping mission on the island, a local employee of the UN force said.

"There are numerous people underneath the rubble, both dead and injured," the employee told AFP.

Save The Children senior emergency adviser Ian Rodgers was in the capital when it the quake hit.

"People are very distressed," he said. "There is a lot of distress and wailing of people trying to find loved ones trapped under buildings.

"Houses have fallen down and slipped down hills. Port-Au-Prince is built on a hillside," he said.

"All the roads are blocked, unfortunately now it is dark. All power seems to be out in Port-Au-Prince and some are using their own generators."

Mr Rogers is worried about people's safety.

"I can only imagine the response is going to be very difficult for the Haitian authorities," he said. "But unfortunately as it's dark, Haiti is going to face security issues."

An AFP correspondent said the ground shook for more than a minute.

Another AFP correspondent in Petionville said one three-storey building was toppled, and a tractor was already at the scene trying to dig out victims as people fled onto the streets in panic. The up-scale area is home to many foreign diplomats and members of a major United Nations mission to the country.

"Just experienced a MAJOR earthquake here in Port au Prince - walls were falling down. We are ALL fine - pray for those in the slums," Twitter user Troy Livesay wrote this morning.

Other reports say at least one hospital has collapsed.

The USA says landline and mobile phone communications have been knocked out by the earthquake.

The shocks were felt at the US base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba but there have been no reports of any injuries outside Haiti.

US aid on the way

US President Barack Obama issued a statement saying the US "stood ready" to help the people of Haiti and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the US will provide both military and civilian aid.

The quake was followed by at least two weaker aftershocks.

A major earthquake of magnitude 7 or higher is capable of causing widespread and heavy damage.

A tsunami warning was issued but was later cancelled, but a small tsunami was measured.

Haiti, and the entire Caribbean, is in an area that is particularly prone to earthquakes because two fault lines meet in that areas side-by-side - making it a strike-slip fault.

This means the earth either side of the fault slides horizontally during a tremor, rather than buckling vertically.

These earthquakes are characterised by shaking and do not tend to result in tsunamis.

Because these faults are located on land, they tend to take place close to population centres, making them particularly devastating.

Dip-slip faults, the other faults around which earthquakes take place, tend to be found off-shore under the ocean. Therefore population areas are located further from these earthquakes.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere.

7.0 quake hits Haiti; 'Serious loss of life' expected

A major earthquake struck southern Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, knocking down buildings and power lines and inflicting what its ambassador to the United States called a catastrophe for the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation.

Several eyewitnesses reported heavy damage and bodies in the streets of the capital, Port-au-Prince, where concrete-block homes line steep hillsides. There was no estimate of the dead and wounded Tuesday evening, but the U.S. State Department has been told to expect "serious loss of life," department spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters in Washington.

"The only thing I can do now is pray and hope for the best," the ambassador, Raymond Alcide Joseph, stated.

Pictures show homes and small businesses in Haiti that have collapsed.

The magnitude 7.0 quake -- the most powerful to hit Haiti in a century -- struck shortly before 5 p.m. and was centered about 10 miles (15 kilometers) southwest of Port-au-Prince, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. It could be felt strongly in eastern Cuba, more than 200 miles away, witnesses said.

Experts warned of earthquake risk on Haiti.

Mike Godfrey, an American contractor working for the U.S. Agency for International Development, said "a huge plume of dust and smoke rose up over the city" within minutes of the quake -- "a blanket that completely covered the city and obscured it for about 20 minutes."

Witnesses reported damaged buildings throughout the capital, including the president's residence and century-old homes nearby, and The Associated Press reported that a hospital collapsed. President Rene Preval is safe, Joseph said, but there was no estimate of the dead and wounded Tuesday evening.

He said an official of his government told him houses had crumbled "on the right side of the street and the left side of the street."

"He said it is a catastrophe of major proportions," Joseph said.

Impact Your World:How You Can Help:

Frank Williams, the Haitian director of the relief agency World Vision International, said the quake left people "pretty much screaming" all around Port-au-Prince. He said the agency's building shook for about 35 seconds, "and portions of things on the building fell off."

"None of our staff were injured, but lots of walls are falling down," Williams said. "Many of our staff have tried to leave, but were unsuccessful because the walls from buildings and private residences are falling into the streets, so that it has pretty much blocked significantly most of the traffic."

Haiti's government is backed by a U.N. peacekeeping mission established after the ouster of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 2004.

The headquarters of the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Port-au-Prince collapsed, a U.N. official told CNN.

There was no immediate report of any dead or wounded from the building, but Alain Le Roy, the undersecretary-general for peacekeeping operations said of the 9,000-member, Brazilian led-force, "For the moment, a large number of personnel remain unaccounted for."

Outside the capital, several people were hurt when they rushed to get out of a school in the southwestern city of Les Cayes, said the Rev. Kesner Ajax, the school's executive director. Two homes in the area collapsed and the top of a church collapsed in a nearby town, he said, but he did not know of any fatalities.

Les Cayes, a city of about 400,000 people, is about 140 miles (225 kilometers) southwest of Port-au-Prince.

The quake took place about 6 miles (10 kilometers) underground, according to the USGS -- a depth that can produce severe shaking. At least 10 aftershocks followed, including two in the magnitude 5 range, the USGS reported.

Appeals for aid after earthquake strikes Haiti

Jean Bernard, an eyewitness in Port-au-Prince, told CNN the city had no electricity Tuesday evening. The first quake lasted 35 to 40 seconds, he said.

"A lot of houses [and] buildings went down, and people are still running all over the streets," Bernard said. "People are looking for their wives, looking for their husbands and their kids. It's scary."

Luke Renner, an American staying in Cap-Hatien, a city nearly 100 miles north of Port-au-Prince, said he was sitting at his home when "the whole world started to shake."

"It felt like our whole house was balancing on a beach ball," Renner said. "We heard the whole community screaming and in an uproar during that whole 20- to 30-second window."

"I haven't seen any structural damage here," Renner continued. "With the sun setting it may be difficult to tell. In the morning we'll know for sure."

Because of the earthquake's proximity to the capital, and because the city is densely populated and has poorly constructed housing, "it could cause significant casualties," said Jian Lin, a senior geologist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts.

In Washington, President Obama said the U.S. government would "stand ready to assist the people of Haiti." At the Pentagon, the U.S. military said humanitarian aid was being prepared for shipping, but it was not yet clear where or how it would be sent. A U.S. aviation source said the control tower at the Port-au-Prince international airport collapsed, possibly hindering efforts to fly relief supplies into the country.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters that Washington is offering "our full assistance" to Haiti."

The deputy chief of the U.S. mission in Haiti, David Lindwall, told Clinton that he saw "significant damage" from the quake and said U.S. officials there expect "serious loss of life," Crowley said.

And Clinton's husband, former President Clinton -- now the U.N. special envoy for Haiti -- said the world body was "committed to do whatever we can to assist the people of Haiti in their relief, rebuilding and recovery efforts."

The United States has been heavily involved in Haiti commercially, politically and militarily for most of the last century. U.S. intervention under Clinton restored Aristide to power in 1994 after a 1991 coup, and a U.S. jet hustled him out of the country again in 2004 following a rapidly spreading uprising against his government.

The disaster is the latest to befall the country of about 9 million people, roughly the size of Maryland. It is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and among the poorest in the world.

With people stripping the trees for fuel and to clear land for agriculture, the mountainous countryside has been heavily deforested. That has led to severe erosion and left Haitians vulnerable to massive landslides when heavy rains fall.

Hurricane Gordon killed more than 1,000 people in 1994, while Hurricane Georges killed more than 400 and destroyed the majority of the country's crops in 1998. And in 2004, Hurricane Jeanne killed more than 3,000 people as it passed north of Haiti, with most of the deaths in the northwestern city of Gonaives.

Gonaives was hit heavily again in 2008, when four tropical systems passed through.

In addition, a Haitian school collapsed in November 2008, killing more than 90 people and injuring 150 -- a disaster authorities blamed on poor construction.

Eighty percent of Haiti's population lives under the poverty line, according to the CIA World Factbook.

An employee inside the mall witnessed the incident, but was apprehensive about reporting the crime to authorities in fear of retaliation from the crooks. Police are currently investigating the case.

In a statement sent to rapradar.com, Cole explained why she stopped talking to her mother Frankie and her sisters Neffe and Elite.

"To all my friends and fans – It’s time that I clear the air. It’s not a secret that I haven’t been in contact with my mother Frankie, and my sisters Neffe and Elite and I never wanted to air out our differences to the public. While I won’t go into detail here I find it necessary to let you guys know I decided to stop communication with them because I was at a point in my life where I needed serenity and peace to move forward. Please know I love my family very much but it was time to let it go. You guys are a witness to a lot of what was happening from watching on air and online. Now that I am becoming a mom my passion for having a loving and peaceful home for my child is my #1 priority. It’s very important to both Daniel and I. My plate is very full; I have a new baby coming, we are planning our wedding and I am working in the studio on a new album that I am close to completing. The stress that my family is giving me with their constant false reports is not healthy and it’s not what I need at this time in my life. Please understand that there are only a few people that can officially confirm or deny anything that’s happening in my life and that’s me, Daniel, and my publicist, Tresa Sanders. And my girl Monica never lies."

Beyonce Denies Performing For Dictator

Earlier this week, the New York Post reported that Beyonce cashed in big by performing for a “terror-backing Libyan dictator” on New Year’s Eve.

The party held in honor of the Gaddafi family drew criticism from American press due to the family's known history of violence and dictatorship. Beyonce’s camp just released a statement addressing the backlash.

"The party in St. Bart's on New Year's Eve, with Beyonce in performance, was hosted by Muatsim-Billah Gaddafi, not his brother Moutassim Bilal "Hannibal" Gaddafi, as reported in the press,” the statement reads. “Her agents and management firm made the decision to confirm the private performance. The annual party had a long history of booking internationally known artists both American and foreign for events around the world, including Cannes."

While past performances have included American recording artists like Timbaland and Mariah Carey, this year's guests included singer Usher, former BET CEO Bob Johnson, actress Lindsay Lohan, and music vets Russell Simmons, Kevin Liles, and L.A. Reid.

In light of all of this "controversy," Russell Simmons called the media into question for not calling out "the famous CEOs who were at the event and invested with the family and in the country instead of demonizing the evening's entertainment."

“I wanted to reach out to my fans right away to clear up the allegations circulating the web,” J-Boog said in the statement. “I did not get charged with any form of domestic violence against the mother of my children. I love and respect all of the women in my life and would never harm any of them.

Alfamega to Address Being DEA Informant and T.I. in Tell-All Book

The Alfamega/T.I. issue was thought to be over and done with, but the former Grand Hustle associate recently announced he’ll be releasing a tell-all book about his time with his ex-boss T.I. and his publicized DEA scandal last year.

"I've been writing my book though, that's all I been doing," he revealed in an interview with AllHipHop.com. "It's about my life, everything that happened, giving it real, the whole scenario of what went down with the court stuff, the guy [drug dealer Ali Baager], me and Tip, and everything. [I've written to] about the sixth chapter."

Titled “Displaced Loyalty and Revenge,” Alfamega addresses all hot button topics, and with the inclusion of his song, "Round One," being a direct diss towards T.I., things are looking hot in the new year. "The song was recorded when I was with Grand Hustle," Alfa explained. "My mixture was already recorded before."

On the song, Mega also alludes to the feud between former partner Jay-Z and Damon Dash. "Get your money up, let it pile up," Alfa raps on the track. "Every other song, I'ma switch the style up… Drop your a** like Jay did Dame Dash's/Let me cool down before I blow a head gasket/Slappin' this b*tch put a n***a in a casket/One phone call do a n***a tragic/Make your wife a widow and your son a little bastard.”

Banton’s label issued a statement saying, “Gargamel Music, Inc. is pleased to announce that top federal criminal defense attorney, David Oscar Markus, has officially been retained to defend four-time Grammy-nominated Reggae icon, Buju Banton, against the trumped-up drug charges currently being levied against him by the United States government."

Without hesitation, Markus has already come to the defense of his client stating the charges filed against Banton are completely false. We are all looking forward to getting him out of prison so that he can move forward with his stellar music career."

On Christmas eve, Alfamega’s children were involved in a brutal attack at T.I.’s Club Crucial Nightclub.

First, Mega’s daughter was stabbed three times, puncturing one of her lungs. During the altercation, Alfamega’s son came to her aid, but had his jaw fractured in the process.

"I had a talk with Tip's uncle Derrick, who co-owns Club Crucial," Mega told Allhiphop.com. "I was like, ‘my daughter got stabbed up there dog and my son got his jaw fractured.' He was like, 'huh? I didn't know that.'”

"They didn't know, the people they got into it with didn't know they were my children," he continued. "I was told that my children wasn't in the wrong. I straight up told the dudes there wouldn't be any street retaliation behind it...and I don't want no street retaliation of violence. It's a new year. And all in a nutshell they didn't know. I would look at it different if they knew they was my children. And I don't wish that upon nobody's children.”

Both children have since been released from the hospital and are recovering currently under the care of their father.

Don’t play with Diddy’s money. Christian Casey LLC, the company that runs Puff’s Sean John clothing line, has filed a $2.5 lawsuit against their landlord in New York City.

Sean John reportedly leased part of a ground floor building on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for its flagship store. According to the suit, the building’s owners set up a sidewalk scaffolding in 2006 and have yet to remove it—causing the store’s business to drop by close to 50%.

The suit states that the scaffolding, “substantially obstructed the view of the clothing and furnishings displayed in the ground floor windows."

Christian Casey LLC is suing for $2.5 in damages.

Teddy Riley Denies Assaulting Daughters

After reports of legendary producer Teddy Riley allegedly attacking his daughters surfaced on TMZ, Riley himself released a statement refuting the claims.

TMZ previously reported that Riley’s 18-year-old daughter Taja was granted a restraining order after claiming that her 43-year-old father– a member of R&B groups Guy and Blackstreet, and widely hailed as the creator of the New Jack Swing sound in music – attacked her and her older sister by “stomping, punching and bashing them” in his Los Angeles home December 23. Taja claims to have received several injuries following the incident, including “bashes to the temple," a “contusion on the face” and “pain in the knee.”

The turmoil then spilled onto Twitter, where Teddy, Taja, Riley’s 21-year-old daughter Deja and Teddy’s girlfriend Bita, publicly bickered on the popular social networking site.

However, Teddy is now denying the accusations. Releasing a statement to TMZ, Riley goes on to say that while he loves his daughters, perhaps he “should have been a stronger disciplinarian as they were growing up. I worked very hard so that my children would want for nothing.

“Instead of being appreciative and realizing how fortunate they are,” Riley continues, “my children have an inflated sense of entitlement and expectation without having to work or earn their way. However, my ‘children’ are no longer children, they are adults and I am trying to instill in them values and a work ethic of their own. My mother always told me “too many grown people can’t live in one house” so I encourage them to have their own homes if they cannot abide by the rules of mine. I am not an uptight dad, I am as hip as they come but I will not tolerate being taken advantage of or disrespected, especially in my home.”

USA Today, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Associated Press also singled out Maxwell’s newest offering as a project to remember not only for 2009, but the decade as well.

In support of the release, Maxwell made a plethora of appearances like "The Jay Leno Show," "The Today Show," "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live," "Late Show with David Letterman," CBS' "Early Show," CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

To top of a captivating run, Maxwell will be performing cuts from the album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on January 31, 2010 on CBS live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

In the documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Taja also claims that Teddy “lifted a Rock Band [video game peripheral] guitar and threatened to kill person(s) with it.”

Taja claims to have received several injuries following the incident, including “bashes to the temple," a “contusion on the face” and “pain in the knee.” There’s no word on what may have set Riley off.

According to the restraining order, Teddy Riley has now been ordered to stay 100 yards away from Taja. The next hearing is set for January.

A new HBO series starring KiD CuDi is set to premiere on the premium cable network next year.

According to reports the show, titled How To Make It In America, created by Entourage executive producer Mark Wahlberg, will focus on a group of 20-somethings trying to achieve the “American Dream” while residing in central Downtown Manhattan.
